LUNCH MONITOR

Reports to: FOOD SERVICE NUTRITION COORDINATOR

Salary: $16.28 - $19.45 HOURLY

Calendar Days: 176 DAYS

Schedule: 9:45 AM - 1:45 PM – Monday – Friday (Part Time)

Responsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service. Assists with cleanliness of the cafeteria and flow of meal service. Promotes safety and well‑being of students as they interact during lunch. Work is performed under general supervision of the Food Service Nutrition Coordinator, with consultation and oversight from the Head of School.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.

• Able to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
• Physically able to perform duties at sufficient speed in a fast‑paced environment.
• Functional reading and writing in English.
• Knowledgeable about meal pattern requirements and understands federal, state, and local program regulations.
• Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures for food service.
• Mature judgment and dependability.
• Skill in coping with a variety of students in varied situations.

• Prefer three months experience, preferably with children in a fast‑paced environment.

• Manage students during meal service, referring behavior problems to teacher or principal per school guidelines.
• Communicate with students and staff positively and professionally using appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Circulate throughout cafeteria or meal service areas, assisting students who need assistance.
• Assist with cafeteria cleanliness.
• Dismiss classes in an orderly manner at scheduled times.
• Encourage good table manners.
• Participate in training sessions, meetings, and cleaning days as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Maintain student safety in cafeteria.
• Communicate positively and professionally.
• Maintain order and cleanliness of tables and cafeteria areas.

• Physically able to move around cafeteria and perform duties at efficient speed.
• Assist children with opening lunch items when needed.
• Perform bending, squatting, reaching, grasping, and other necessary physical positions.
• Stand for prolonged periods.

• Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves school performance.

• Perform some cleaning duties, such as at service station or around kitchen area.
