Court Specialist
Reporting directly to the Chief Deputy District Clerk responsible for performing complex duties related to supporting various courts for the District Clerk's Office. Level I of II in Court Specialists.
Examples of work performed include:
- Providing customer service and performing detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing and maintenance of court documents and case files
- Preparing and processing varied legal procedures and documents
- Interacting with various state, county, local and private agencies
- Utilizing legal reference materials to perform research related to current laws and procedures
- Preparing a variety of reports related to case management and compliance
- Reviewing and determining court cost
- Scanning all pleading documents received from court
- Conducting records management by creating, retaining, distributing, and disposing files as necessary
- Assisting with jury selection process
- Performing data entry of court proceedings, orders and outcomes based on court documents
- Preparing and completing dismissal dockets
- Processing and distributing attorney vouchers
- Reviewing and accepting e-Files as to the Judicial Committee on Information Technology (JCIT) Standards approved by the Supreme Court of Texas
- Researching cases, mailing notices, and entering orders of the court
- Maintaining responsibility for jury trials and payment of jurors
- Serving as courtroom clerk, when necessary
- Attending all trainings and meetings as needed
- Performing special duties as assigned
Criminal & Civil Assignment:
- Processing and reporting cases to the state via Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)
- Updating motions and signed orders related to criminal and civil cases
- Providing legal documentation to the Department of Transportation and other state agencies
- Preparing TDCJ Pen Packets for defendants
Organization Relationships:
- Reports directly to – Chief Deputy District Clerk
- Direct Reports – None
Physical Demands:
- Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carrying
Environmental Factors:
- Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment
Irregular
Hours:
- Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
- May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of clerical experience with one (1) year in a court or legal setting; OR one (1) year experience in a Williamson County Deputy District Clerk position
- One (1) year cash-handling experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Licenses and
Certifications:
Required within thirty (30) days of employment:
- Valid Texas driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in a Williamson County Deputy District Clerk position
- Prior experience with records management and e-Filing procedures
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft applications
