Position Overview
Sign‑on Bonus: $10,000k for full‑time day shift positions.
Registered Nurses (RNs) are responsible for delivering quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients hospitalized for psychiatric or emotional disorders. Day shifts run 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; night shifts run 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. All care follows our clinical guidelines and supports the hospital’s philosophy of care and safety.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care, including facilitating social and emotional needs, supervising medication schedules, and evaluating patient progress.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and deliver optimal patient care.
- Maintain a safe environment on the unit.
- Provide social support by encouraging participation in support groups, social activities, and other therapeutic measures.
- Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
- Plan and provide nursing care for patients.
- Make nursing diagnoses of patients’ medical and emotional status and recommend treatment options.
- Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to design appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer and document reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
- Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
- Assist clients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
- Keep accurate written charts and records of patient activities and progress; comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
- Use professional judgment to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
- Check vital signs and ensure pain treatments are administered.
- Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician orders.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results per standard medical record‑keeping.
- Perform administrative assignments such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the computer system.
- Education:
ADN or BSN from an accredited college or university. - Licenses:
Valid Texas RN license in good standing. CPR required/BLS preferred; candidates must complete a CPR course within 30 days of hire. SAMA certification required; candidates must complete our provided class within 30 days of hire. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferably in behavioral healthcare, phone triage, tele‑health, or a combination. - Age:
Must be 21 years old or older. - Language:
Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health and related regulations.
- Familiarity with theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy.
- Understanding of symptoms and behavior patterns of emotionally disturbed patients.
- Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of mental health.
- Professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques for psychiatric patients.
- Social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Medical and psychological terminology; familiarity with psychotropic drugs and their effects.
- Control, preparation, and administration of medications.
- Leadership skills in organizing activities and schedules for shifts.
- Interpersonal skills to serve as a role model.
- Knowledge of treatment procedures for acute psychosis and non‑violent crisis intervention.
- Abnormal psychology knowledge applicable to child, adolescent, or adult populations.
- Teaching and training skills; problem‑solving, organization, time management, crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to apply nursing care principles in evaluation and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Effective communication and ability to function calmly in sensitive situations.
- Judgment in answering questions, releasing information, and analyzing decisions.
- Excellent written and oral communication; facilitation of process‑oriented and didactic groups.
