Position Overview

The Custodian will report to the Manager, Custodial and Logistical & Event Services. Key responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas during night shifts:
Wednesday‑Friday 5:30 pm–2:30 am and Saturday‑Sunday 3:00 pm–12:00 am. This full‑time, non‑exempt position is eligible for the university’s comprehensive benefits program.

Essential Duties

• Maintain all scheduled buildings as assigned.
• Perform general cleaning duties: mop, dust, vacuum, and maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.
• Clean lavatories, toilets, fountains, glass, mirrors, vents, fixtures, doors, furniture, wood surfaces, railings, and windowsills.
• Replace paper towels, tissue, soap, body soap, and trash liners as needed.
• Maintain custodial supplies, equipment, and closets in an organized, functional state.
• Empty and clean wastepaper receptacles inside and outside entries.
• Survey assigned buildings for trash and debris daily.
• Control building lighting and security as required.
• Execute special projects such as window cleaning, hardscape maintenance, mold remediation, and floor/wall care.
• Safeguard keys and university property.
• Inspect and maintain equipment, reporting needed repairs.
• Document defects, deterioration, and wear via the work order system.
• Move heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment as directed.
• Be prepared to work additional hours, weekends, or emergency shifts when necessary.

Additional Duties

• Participate in safety training programs.
• Assist other departments with approved training when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• 6 months to 1 year of custodial experience.
• Demonstrated sensitivity and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
• Capability to work with or without supervision.
• Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
• Timely completion of work assignments.
• Availability to work any shift, including day, night, weekends, and holidays.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Consistent attendance and reliable schedule adherence.
• Compliance with safety programs and university regulations.
• Physical ability to reach, twist, bend, stoop, stand, kneel, handle, push/pull, and lift.
• Capacity to lift 30–50 lbs. without assistance.
• Clear hearing, vision, and speech.
• Ability to work in all buildings and outside in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–3 years of custodial experience.
• Valid Texas driver’s license in good standing with a clean driving record meeting the university’s insurance requirements.

Salary

Starting hourly rate: $16.00/hr (+ $1.00 night differential). Final offer may exceed the starting rate based on experience.
