Overview

Reporting directly to the Facility Administrator, responsible for assisting in the oversight of the daily operations and staff within Juvenile Services related to the CORE Residential Treatment Program and Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), or the pre‑adjudication Detention Center.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in implementing policies and procedures to ensure all compliance standards are met.
  • Aids in continuously analyzing and evaluating Juvenile Services programs and outcomes.
  • Coordinates operational activities within the Juvenile Services residential facilities.
  • Creates work schedules for case managers, facilities supervisors, and juvenile supervision officers.
  • Performs performance reviews, makes and, in collaboration with the Facility Administrator, recommends personnel changes within department parameters.
  • Collaborates with mental health professionals on coordinating care and services for residents.
  • Aids in providing guidance and judgement on handling safety and security of the Juvenile Justice Center.
  • Maintains and analyzes statistical data regarding resident programs and services.
  • Provides trainings to facilities supervisors and personnel.
  • Assists in managing expenditures of the facility and assists in preparing the annual budget.
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required.
  • Performs special duties as assigned.
CORE/JJAEP Assignment
  • Assists in overseeing, implementing, and supervising daily operations of the CORE Residential Treatment Program and JJAEP.
  • Provides direct supervision of the CORE residential and JJAEP Case Managers.
  • Assists in coordinating the operational activities and programs including staff schedules, maintenance, food service, educational programs, purchases, and housekeeping.
  • Works in collaboration with the Detention Facility Administrator and Assistant Facility Administrator, sharing staff and resources and cross‑training.
Organization Relationships
  • Reports directly to – Facility Administrator.

Physical Demands
  • Position involves performing non‑violent physical restraint.
  • Position involves operating motor vehicles.
  • Position involves using mechanical restraint devices (handcuff and leg shackles).
  • Position involves prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending and squatting.
Environmental Factors
  • Work is primarily indoors in an air‑conditioned environment.
  • Continuous contact with youth accused or adjudicated of various crimes.
  • May be required to perform work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet, conditions).
Irregular Hours
  • Serves on‑call on a 24‑hour basis.
  • Requires flexibility to work: days, evenings and/or weekend hours.
  • Ability to work scheduled Saturdays supervising juvenile programs.
  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology or a related field (see licensure requirements below) and three (3) years of full‑time work experience in a juvenile supervision related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a non‑disqualifying criminal history per Texas Administrative Code Sections 344.200 and 344.400.
Licenses and Certifications Required within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Valid driver’s license.
Required within six (6) months of employment
  • Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Probation Officer Certification (JPO).
  • Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Supervision Officer Certification (JSO).
  • Handle with Care Certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Certification (CPR).
  • First Aid/AED Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Four (4) years of full‑time work experience in a juvenile supervision related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.
