Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Robotics, Automation Engineering, Installation Technician
Automation Technician is responsible for building, maintaining and troubleshooting robotic and automation systems, using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
Responsibilities- Work with the Maintenance Manager to schedule work to support production.
- Perform electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic modifications on fixtures.
- Provide a supportive team environment, encouraging suggestions and expressing appreciation for coworkers.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, collaborating with manufacturers or field representatives to maximize machine utilization and productivity.
- Fabricate automation and robotic systems to increase production and quality.
- Install, program, or repair programmable controllers, robot controllers, end‑of‑arm tools, or conveyors.
- Integrate robotics with peripherals such as welders, controllers, or other equipment.
- Provide user applications or engineering support and recommendations for new or existing equipment regarding installation, upgrades, or enhancements.
- Provide customer support, determine sources of problems, and troubleshoot to resolution.
- Disassemble and reassemble robots or peripheral equipment to replace defective circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, and servomotors.
- Develop robotic path motions to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Program and debug robotic programs.
- Build or assemble robotic devices or systems.
- Fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, or fixtures using metalworking machines.
- Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems or components.
- Maintain service records of robotic equipment or automated production systems.
- Document tasks performed and inventory items used on a daily basis.
- Create backups of robot and controls programs or parameters.
- Report any unsafe conditions immediately.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required by the supervisor, maintaining a safe, efficient, and quality‑conscious operation.
- Participate in environmental response actions, serving as a member of the environmental response action team with specialized training and providing on‑the‑job training where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot major electrical issues on all manufacturing equipment.
- Electrical skills: logic level, 110 V – 440 V, relay logic.
- PLC and computer logic programming and troubleshooting.
- Blueprint reading – electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and welding.
- Mechanical skills – fabrication, welding, lathe, Bridgeport, surface grinder.
- Fabrication and equipment repair expertise.
- Knowledge of tool‑room equipment, measuring devices (dial calipers, micrometers) and parts inventory requirements.
- Statistical methods of problem solving.
- Strong pride in workmanship, self‑motivation, communication, organizational and planning skills.
- Safety-conscious, record‑keeping and initiative.
- Desire to seek out and solve problems.
- Language skills: read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense and deal with problems involving multiple variables.
- Certifications and licenses:
Hi‑Lo license, rigging, and crane training required. - Multimeter proficiency.
Hands are required to finger, handle, or feel. The employee regularly stands, walks, reaches with hands and arms, climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, and talks or hears. The employee occasionally tastes or smells. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and move up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift and move up to 25 lbs.
Vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an environment that requires PLC programming logic, computer logic, blueprint reading, pneumatic skills, mechanical blueprint reading, welding, fabrication, equipment repair, and statistical methods of problem solving. The environment may include heavy machinery, intermittent noise, and the need for temperature and safety awareness.
