Process Engineer – Plastic Injection Molding

We are seeking a hands‑on Process Engineer with a focus on injection molding process development and optimization. You’ll own critical manufacturing processes, troubleshoot issues on the floor, and drive improvements to yield, quality, and throughput. Depending on experience, you’ll grow from supporting process development to leading major initiatives and mentoring junior engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up, change over, and optimize injection molding machines using scientific molding principles. Improve cycle times, reduce defects, and ensure process stability.
  • Evaluate and refine mold tooling, participate in design reviews, and build/adjust robot end‑of‑arm tooling. Source new equipment as production needs evolve.
  • Diagnose process and tooling issues, lead root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions to maintain high yield and quality.
  • Lead or support projects to improve yield, cost, and cycle time. Qualify new products, tools, and materials, and stay current with technology advancements.
  • Write SOPs, maintain process documentation, and train technicians/operators to ensure safe, consistent execution.
  • Partner with design, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve issues, provide design‑for‑manufacturability feedback, and ensure smooth production ramp‑up.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Experience / Education
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Plastics, Materials, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5–7+ years (mid‑level) or 8–12+ years (senior‑level) in injection molding process development.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Hands‑on ability to set up, start up, and optimize injection molding machines.
  • Strong background in tooling, equipment, polymer behavior, and quality systems.
  • Experience with automation and end‑of‑arm tooling preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
    Solid Works or similar CAD experience is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, data analysis, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead process improvement projects and collaborate across teams.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Includes both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and a shop environment, with exposure to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, nuisance dust, and skin exposure to chemicals used to run/maintain machines.

PPE

May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, bump‑caps, gloves, hair nets, masks, & clean‑room frocks while adhering to the prescribed safety procedures.
