Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Seeking Experienced Tooling & Repair Technician
Are you a seasoned mold maker who thrives on precision? We are looking for a highly skilled Tool/Mold Repair Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex plastic injection molds.
What You’ll Do- Tool Maintenance & Repair:
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot tooling issues, and execution of minor engineering changes to optimize mold performance. - Machining & Fabrication:
Utilize CNC, EDM, mills, and other standard machining equipment to repair or modify mold components. - Heavy Lifting Logistics:
Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move, flip, and set large injection molds. - Collaboration & Analytics:
Partner with Process and Plant Engineers to implement process improvements and participate in formal root-cause analysis (8
Ds). - Documentation & Inventory:
Maintain meticulous records of all tool repairs/changes and ensure proper inventory levels of critical replacement components. - Safety & Housekeeping:
Adhere strictly to OSHA safety guidelines and maintain an immaculate, organized work area.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with plastic injection molds AND a minimum of 7 years of total experience in mold making and repair.
- Proven technical training and hands‑on experience operating CNC, EDM, and Manual Mills.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting tooling prints, as well as hydraulic and electrical circuit diagrams.
- Adept and certified/experienced in operating overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
- Ability to stand for long periods, work comfortably around moving mechanical parts, and lift/move up to 45 lbs.
- Minimum 5 years' experience with plastic injection molds and a minimum of 7 years' experience in mold making/repair.
- Experience in operating various machinery equipment including adept use of an overhead crane.
- Ability to read tooling prints, hydraulic and electrical circuit prints, and diagrams.
- Must have technical training and/or experience on CNC, EDM, and Mill.
- Must have their own toolbox and an assortment of mold making and repair tools.
- Maintain tools in optimal operating condition.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities.
- Perform minor engineering changes.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing tools.
- Assist Supervisor in training associates in the proper care and use of tools.
- Assure proper inventory levels of required replacement parts for all tools.
- Follow all prescribed internal tooling procedures.
- Assist Process Engineers, Plant Engineers, and the Tech Center in implementing process improvement changes.
- Participate in corresponding root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in work area.
- Participate in team problem-solving activities (i.e., 8
Ds, communication meetings, etc.). - Responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records of all tool repairs and changes.
- Responsible for following all internal and OSHA required safety procedures.
- Responsible for following all USF policies and procedures.
- Wearing steel toe shoes.
- Working in a non-temperature controlled environment.
- Manual lifting up to 45lbs.
- Standing for 7 hours at one time.
- Working up to 5 hrs of overtime per week.
- Plastic Injection Molds (3 years of experience is required).
- Mold Making / Repair (4 years of experience is required).
- Overhead Crane (1 year of experience is preferred).
- Blueprints and Diagrams (3 years of experience is preferred).
- Electrical Circuit Diagrams (3 years of experience is preferred).
- Hydraulic Diagrams (3 years of experience is preferred).
- CNC (2 years of experience is preferred).
- EDM (1 year of experience is preferred).
- Milling (1 year of experience is preferred).
- Forklift (1 year of experience is preferred).
- TIG welding (1 year of experience is required).
- Laser Welding (1 year of experience is preferred).
- Hand Grinding (1 year of experience is preferred).
- Years of experience: 4 years.
