Material Handler Forklift

The Material Handler is responsible for performing the day-to-day activities of the warehouse, including shipping, receiving, sanitation, maintenance, safety, inventory control, and pulling parts for production. This role requires familiarity with general warehouse procedures and processes, as well as the ability to load and unload materials using forklifts, hand trucks, or other material handling equipment. The Material Handler will communicate safety rules to incoming commercial drivers and ensure maintenance of computer system records related to inventory, including stock locations, transactions for all work order pulls, inventory adjustments, and cycle count transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate heavy-duty forklifts like 5K, 15K, and 30K.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts.
  • Load and unload finished goods and in-process materials from semi-trailers and other designated storage areas.
  • Transport materials and items from receiving and production to storage or other designated areas.
  • Check material movement transactions for accuracy of part numbers, quantities, and locations.
  • Mark materials with identifying information.
  • Maintain orderly shelves and bins in the stockroom.
  • Help maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Enter and maintain inventory records in the computer by recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
  • Coordinate with production for timely delivery of required components for work orders.
  • Responsible for un-decking piggyback chassis.
  • Immediately store wasted axle oil from new chassis.
  • Check truck list reports against VIN to determine ownership of chassis.
  • Inspect new chassis for damage.
  • Receive Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA's) and send copies to the appropriate person.
  • Run reports to check packing slips receipts for errors.
  • File daily packing slips receipts.
  • Clean warehouse area.
  • Comply with company safety policy and safe driving practices.
  • Demonstrate a productive and non-disruptive work ethic.
  • Assist in completion of corrective actions/preventive actions.
  • Support the Purchasing Department in resolving vendor issues – quantity, missing paperwork, damaged parts.
  • Manage and replace defective parts and identify possible solutions.
  • Strive to improve in all aspects of job requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment; care for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Follow company policy regarding regular attendance and timeliness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential

Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience driving sit-down forklifts.
  • Full cycle shipping experience including inventory tracking.
  • Basic computer knowledge and use of inventory systems.
  • Proficient in reading and writing.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing warehouse experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of material handler experience (sit down & pallet jacks).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Epicor Vantage ERP System is a plus.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to inspire team confidence and respect.
  • Desire for achieving excellence in internal/external customer satisfaction, process, and product quality and reliability.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
