Material Handler – Forklift

This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing warehouse, including shipping, receiving, sanitation, maintenance support, safety, inventory control, and pulling parts for production. You will safely operate heavy-duty forklifts and other material handling equipment to load and unload materials, maintain accurate inventory records in computer systems, and ensure timely delivery of components to production. You will help keep the warehouse clean, organized, and compliant with safety policies while supporting continuous improvement and high standards of quality and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate heavy-duty sit-down forklifts, including 5K, 15K, and 30K capacity units.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and report any issues promptly.
  • Load and unload finished goods and in-process materials from semi-trailers and other designated storage areas.
  • Move materials and items from receiving and production areas to storage or other designated locations.
  • Verify material movement transactions for accuracy, including part numbers, quantities, and storage locations.
  • Mark materials with clear identifying information to support traceability and inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain orderly shelves, bins, and stockroom areas to ensure efficient material flow.
  • Help maintain accurate inventory levels by monitoring stock and reporting discrepancies.
  • Enter and maintain inventory records in computer systems by recording materials received, issued, and moved.
  • Coordinate closely with production to ensure timely delivery of required components for work orders.
  • Perform un-decking of piggyback chassis safely and efficiently.
  • Immediately store wasted axle oil from new chassis in accordance with procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Check truck list reports against VINs to confirm chassis ownership.
  • Inspect new chassis for damage and document findings as required.
  • Receive Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) and route documentation to the originator.
  • Run reports to check packing slip receipts for errors and resolve discrepancies.
  • File daily packing slip receipts in an organized and timely manner.
  • Clean and maintain the warehouse area to ensure a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Communicate and reinforce safety rules to incoming commercial drivers and other visitors.
  • Follow company safety policies and safe driving practices at all times.
  • Demonstrate a consistent, productive, and non-disruptive work ethic.
  • Assist in the completion of corrective and preventive actions related to inventory, quality, or process issues.
  • Support the Purchasing function in resolving vendor issues, including quantity discrepancies, missing paperwork, and damaged parts.
  • Manage and replace defective parts and identify possible solutions or alternatives.
  • Continuously strive to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency in all aspects of the job.
  • Care for and properly use shop tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the warehouse.
  • Follow company policy regarding regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support warehouse and production operations.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing warehouse environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of material handler experience, including sit-down forklift and pallet jack operation.
  • At least 3 years of experience driving sit-down forklifts, including heavy-duty units.
  • Full-cycle shipping experience, including inventory tracking and documentation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer use and inventory systems for data entry and record maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
