Job Summary
Transition Registered Nurse (RN) in the Newborn Nursery, responsible for coordinating and providing direct patient care during the two‑hour transition period after delivery.
Responsibilities- Attend deliveries to advocate for newborn needs and assist with safe adjustments after birth, monitor stability, and address anomalies.
- Conduct head‑to‑toe assessments, administer medications, and perform ongoing monitoring of newborn and mother during the transition period.
- Assign initial Apgar scores and facilitate skin‑to‑skin bonding for at least one hour.
- Assist with breastfeeding or feeding choices during the first hour and beyond before moving to the mother‑baby unit.
- Access and reassess respiratory and airway support, thermoregulation, and metabolic stability using neonatal resuscitation program guidelines.
- Develop and implement care plans promoting newborn wellness.
- Administer medications as needed, provide neonatal abstinence scoring, perform urine collection, monitor blood glucose and oxygen saturation, and conduct lab work.
- Serve as a mentor to Labor & Delivery and Mother‑Baby nurses, providing relief during busier times.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required within 30 days of start date.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required within 6 months of start date.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Registered Nurse diploma.
- No travel required.
- No prior experience required; years of experience not a prerequisite.
