Registered Nurse Transition

Job Summary

Transition Registered Nurse (RN) in the Newborn Nursery, responsible for coordinating and providing direct patient care during the two‑hour transition period after delivery.

• Attend deliveries to advocate for newborn needs and assist with safe adjustments after birth, monitor stability, and address anomalies.
• Conduct head‑to‑toe assessments, administer medications, and perform ongoing monitoring of newborn and mother during the transition period.
• Assign initial Apgar scores and facilitate skin‑to‑skin bonding for at least one hour.
• Assist with breastfeeding or feeding choices during the first hour and beyond before moving to the mother‑baby unit.
• Access and reassess respiratory and airway support, thermoregulation, and metabolic stability using neonatal resuscitation program guidelines.
• Develop and implement care plans promoting newborn wellness.
• Administer medications as needed, provide neonatal abstinence scoring, perform urine collection, monitor blood glucose and oxygen saturation, and conduct lab work.
• Serve as a mentor to Labor & Delivery and Mother‑Baby nurses, providing relief during busier times.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required within 30 days of start date.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required within 6 months of start date.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Registered Nurse diploma.
• No travel required.
• No prior experience required; years of experience not a prerequisite.
