POSITION SUMMARY: Implement comprehensive program of health services for campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students.
QUALIFICATIONS- Education/Certification:
- Bachelor or Associate degree in Nursing
- Valid Registered Nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
- Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision, hearing, scoliosis, and Acanthosis Nigricans screenings
- CPR Certification
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Experience:
- Two years nursing experience, preferably in a school setting
- Evaluate and provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
- Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached).
- Administer First Aid/CPR/AED when necessary.
- Evaluate and assess staff condition during medical emergency situations only, providing emergency-level intervention as appropriate. This role does not include routine or ongoing medical care for staff.
- Coordinate management system to administer medications to students inister medications as prescribed according to state law and district policy.
- Perform state-mandated vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans screenings and refer students as needed. Enter screening data for state reporting by the district deadlines.
- Evaluate students for communicable diseases/conditions and follow state reporting and exclusion requirements.
- Perform health procedures for students with health needs per physician orders.
- Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) for students.
- Participate in the evaluation and review of campus health education curriculum.
- Provide healthcare education to individuals and groups as requested.
- Provide or coordinate campus staff training and education related to health services.
- Provide diabetes training to staff throughout the district.
- Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
- Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
- Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, 504 team, crisis team, and school committees.
- Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
- Review, evaluate, and maintain student immunization records in compliance with state immunization requirements.
