Light Equipment Operator

Overview

Maintenance and construction work in the City of Georgetown street, stormwater (drainage), and right-of-way infrastructure. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment under the general supervision of an assigned lead or Foreman.

• Operate and perform general maintenance on a variety of light and heavy equipment.
• Participate in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city infrastructure.
• Operate trucks and equipment, including dump trucks, pickups, mowers, sprayers (herbicides), weed‑eaters, saws, and other small tools.
• Trim, remove, and chip fallen and overgrown trees.
• Re‑grade and clean ditches, culverts, storm sewers, and ponds to reduce flooding.
• Set forms for curbs and drain inlets.
• Perform concrete maintenance, including forming, setting rebar, pouring, and finishing curbs, streets, driveways, and sidewalks in accordance with ADA standards.
• Participate in asphalt maintenance such as raking, rolling, grading, sanding, and patching potholes on streets and right‑of‑way.
• Conduct and document safety inspections of vehicles and equipment; wear protective and safety gear as required.
• Prepare tools, materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
• Assist in the setup and removal of traffic control as needed.
• Coordinate and assist other areas of operations; transport equipment to and from assigned worksites.
• Perform essential duties during emergencies.
• May serve as lead for assigned staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Six (6) months of full‑time work experience performing work consistent with the essential functions for this classification,
  or any combination of education, training, and/or experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair related to municipal infrastructure (streets, sidewalks, drainage), occupational safety and health regulations, and basic construction of street & stormwater drainage infrastructure.
• Skill in operating light/heavy machinery and equipment; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; documenting work electronically and in writing; reading and understanding equipment manuals; communicating effectively orally and in writing; following instructions; following safety procedures; solving construction and repair problems.

• Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required.
• Out‑of‑state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three‑year driving history.
• Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with air brakes and tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
• Must obtain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License within nine (9) months of hire.

• Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, speaking, use of foot controls.
• Temperature extremes, dust, work near moving traffic, noise from street sweepers.
• Routine scheduled 24‑hour on‑call time on a rotating basis.

Hiring Range: $18.36 – $23.00 per hour.

Regular – Full time.
