Seasonal Crew Member - Road & Bridge

Responsibilities

• Works as a seasonal helper for the Williamson County Road & Bridge crew.
• Performs entry-level work related to assisting with basic roadway maintenance and repair under close supervision.
• Performs manual labor for various crews on maintenance or construction related duties.
• Assists in the proper maintenance of roadways including shoveling, raking, mowing, weed trimming, flagging at traffic sites, hauling materials, and debris removal.
• Assists with proper traffic control as outlined in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Communicates and works effectively with other employees.
• Performs basic computer skills, including sending/receiving email and entering electronic timesheets.
• Complies with departmental and county safety standards.
• Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures.
• Performs related special projects as assigned.
• Understands and follows verbal and written instructions.

• Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, push, climb, twist, stand, reach, squat, pull, drag, walk, carry, shovel, dig, and lift up to 100 pounds.
• Must remain alert and have good vision and awareness of the work area.
• Able to see and hear.
• Able to write and read to a size 10 font.

• Works in all kinds of indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
• May be exposed to constant noise, dust, fumes, traffic, and hazardous chemicals.

• Duties may be based on a work week schedule of either four 10-hour work days or five 8-hour work days as assigned by the Sr. Director of Infrastructure, County Engineer, Director of Road & Bridge or their designee and may be changed at any time.
• Ability to work overtime when necessary.
• Work reporting location may be anywhere within Williamson County.
• Essential personnel for emergency situations; at the discretion of the Department Director.

• Employment is contingent upon a post-offer, pre-employment and periodic physicals, drug testing, criminal background investigations, and motor vehicle record reports.

• Basic computer skills such as checking email and entering electronic timesheets.
• Ability to read operating instructions and warning labels on equipment or operating tools.
• Ability to perform hard physical labor.
• Mechanical aptitude and safety conscious.
• Must be professional, dependable, resourceful and able to work independently.
• Must be able to work well with others as a member of a crew.
• Must be able to perform tasks and receive supervision in a professional manner.
• Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
• Must obtain a valid Texas driver’s license by date of hire.
