Position: Shop Service Technician 3

HOLT CAT is the largest dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, 1st shift Heavy Equipment Mechanic position available at our Georgetown, Texas location, 2101 Airport Rd, Georgetown, TX 78628. The position operates Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.

Mid‑level position – generally has more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job‑relevant knowledge/skills. A Level III Technician has moderate knowledge of the field’s standard practices and procedures, performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks, is indirectly supervised and self‑starting, and often serves as a team member on large projects.

  • Essential Functions
    • Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT’s Values‑Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
    • Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer’s specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling.
    • Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
    • Demonstrate good customer relations and support; communicate customer needs to shop management.
    • Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
    • Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
    • Mentor and help train other technicians.
    • Maintain all equipment and work areas – keep them in good, clean, and orderly condition.
    • Complete all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner.
    • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
    • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths.
    • Require regular and punctual employee attendance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt‑moving equipment preferred.
    • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
    • Quality control analysis skills – conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
    • Operation and control skills – controlling operations of equipment or systems.
    • Equipment selection skills – determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
    • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane.
    • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions.
    • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
    • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
    • The ability to read, write, and understand information.
    • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
    • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard).
    Requirements

    Education and Experience
    • Four or more years of diesel‑powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred.
    • Ability and knowledge to read and use schematics and diagrams – experience preferred.
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
    • None.
    Travel
    • Some travel is expected for this position.
    Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
    • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
