Position: Lead Technician - CAT Support

Job Summary

HOLT CAT in Georgetown is looking for a Heavy Construction Equipment Lead Technician for the welding shop. The Lead Technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel‑powered heavy construction equipment and related components following established procedures and guidelines. The role is a leadership position, managing a team to deliver welding services that meet customer needs and achieve departmental goals, while upholding CAT quality standards.

Hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM at 2101 Airport Rd, Georgetown, TX 78628.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors physical requirements for work completion and communicates with supervisor.
  • Models and reinforces company policies to ensure alignment with company mission, vision, and values.
  • Achieves labor sales and utilization expectations set by supervisor/manager to meet team revenue targets.
  • Performs job duties of a Service Supervisor during periods of absence.
  • Oversees welding procedures on equipment.
  • Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks.
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components.
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and supports shop management with customer needs.
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs.
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return.
  • Provides significant supervision, mentoring, and training to others.
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all safety, company, and procedural policies.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Updates job knowledge through educational opportunities such as Pro Tech Technician Training Paths.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of welding processes on heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of line boring process preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
  • Quality control analysis skills—conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance and communicating findings.
  • Operation and control skills—controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills—determining the tools and equipment needed for a job.
  • Ability to operate forklift and overhead crane.
  • Ability to quickly operate controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions.
  • Ability to operate hand, power, pneumatic, and mechanical repair tools.
  • Ability to manipulate very small objects with precise coordinated movements.
  • Reading, writing, and understanding information.
  • Listening and understanding spoken information and ideas.
Education and Experience
  • Ten or more years of welding on heavy construction equipment experience preferred.
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred.
Other Requirements
  • None (no supervisory responsibilities).
  • Some travel may be expected.
  • Physical requirements include moving objects, lifting up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, ladder use, working under equipment, and responding to signals.
  • Work environment includes indoor machinery work, exposure to weather extremes, loud noise, chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, high‑speed equipment, confined spaces, and wearing personal protective equipment.
