Inventory & Cost Accountant
Steel & Metal Systems, Inc. and Roll-Up Door, Inc. — two related manufacturing companies producing cold-rolled steel components for storage buildings and barndominiums, and roll-up doors — are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. This role will work closely with the CFO and the Controller, with a primary focus on inventory accounting across both companies within our ERP system, Epicor Kinetic.
WhatYou'll Do
Inventory & Cost Accounting (Primary Focus)
- Reconcile and track inventory quantities, processes, and valuation for both companies;
- Support and analyze cycle counts, researching and resolving quantity and valuation discrepancies;
- Partner with operations and production teams to identify root causes of inventory inaccuracies and help resolve;
- Assist in monthly inventory-to-GL reconciliations to help ensure inventory balances and COGS are accurate;
- Review jobs processed in Epicor to confirm that labor, material, and overhead costs are properly captured and applied to components and finished goods;
- Investigate and resolve cost variances (material, labor, burden) arising from job transactions;
- Help document and improve inventory accounting procedures.
General Accounting
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations;
- Prepare and post journal entries;
- Assist with month-end close tasks as needed;
- Support other accounting projects as assigned by the CFO and/or Controller.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field;
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with detailed, transaction-level data;
- Ability to learn ERP systems (Epicor Kinetic experience a plus, but not required);
- Working knowledge of GAAP, particularly as it relates to inventory costing and valuation and solid understanding of basic accounting principles;
- Comfortable with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs;
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to dig into the "why" behind a discrepancy;
- Good communicator who can work cross-functionally with production/operations staff and office staff
