Camp Blue Ridge Head Counselor

The Head Counselor is a key member of the Camp Blue Ridge leadership team, responsible for overseeing the campers and staff within their assigned village. Head Counselors serve as mentors, supervisors, problem-solvers, and role models while helping create a positive, safe, organized, and fun camp environment.
Responsibilities include supervising and supporting cabin staff, monitoring camper well-being, managing daily village routines and transitions, conducting cabin and facility walkthroughs, addressing staff and camper concerns, and overseeing meals, rest periods, shower hour, evening activities, canteen, and bedtime procedures. Head Counselors work closely with the Camp Directors to communicate concerns, reinforce camp policies and expectations, and ensure the day-to-day needs of campers and staff are being met.
The ideal Head Counselor is a confident and approachable leader who communicates well, takes initiative, remains calm under pressure, leads by example, and genuinely enjoys supporting both campers and staff.
Camp Blue Ridge Head Counselor- Job Requirements
- Must be available for the full summer season, May 28 - August 2 2027
- Previous experience in summer camp leadership or a similar leadership/supervisory role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, mentor, and support staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with both campers and staff
- Responsible, organized, dependable, and able to take initiative
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to remain calm and make good decisions in challenging situations
- Comfortable addressing staff performance, camper behavior, and other concerns in a professional and constructive manner
- Ability to delegate responsibilities while following up to ensure expectations are met
- Willingness to be highly visible, involved, and hands‑on throughout the camp day
- Ability to work collaboratively with Camp Directors and other members of the leadership team
- Must demonstrate good judgment, discretion, professionalism, and a positive attitude
- Must be willing to lead by example and uphold Camp Blue Ridge policies, procedures, and expectations
- Most importantly, must have a genuine desire to support staff, positively impact campers, and help create an incredible summer camp experience
