Location: Greensboro

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Superintendent or Senior Superintendent in one or more operational areas of a construction project. The role includes coordinating and scheduling multiple construction crews, determining construction requirements, planning procedures, and ensuring subcontract work meets required specifications. It also involves participating in inspections of work and equipment to verify safety and compliance with project operations specifications.

The position may require travel up to 100% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Superintendents with monitoring the project schedule and budget, coordinating recovery plans with subcontractors, and meeting regularly with staff and subcontracts to discuss progress, obstacles, challenges, and removing barriers.
  • Assist in coordinating daily operational objectives, timelines, and goals.
  • Coordinate inspections and participate in the examination of work progression, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure specifications are met.
  • Read construction documents to determine construction requirements and plan procedures.
  • Record and maintain information and produce reports such as personnel, production, project logs, status, and other operational data; assist in making decisions regarding start‑up/shut‑down issues on assigned projects and instruct crew members accordingly.
  • Conduct periodic job site safety inspections and audits; be ultimately responsible for all actions occurring on the job site and ensuring safe working conditions for all.
  • Ensure that all assigned projects are built to the highest quality according to plans and specs.
  • Represent Hoar in job site progress meetings or any other meetings as requested or needed.
  • Act as job site superintendent in the absence of the normal superintendent.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with customers and suppliers to keep the flow of operations smooth; communicate clearly and consistently with all parties regarding deliveries and general job progress.
  • Assist in coordination and management of all workforce needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Clearly communicate goals and expectations to crew members, including work hours, amount of work to be completed, and schedule.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of experience in construction or a college construction graduate program.
  • General knowledge of scheduling, cost control, and safety procedures.
  • General computer skills (MS Office).
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Environment:
Work is performed mainly in an indoor and outdoor setting with exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions, and travel from site to site.

Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and field environment (construction site). Tasks include walking, standing, sitting for prolonged periods, frequently stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching, twisting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements. Employees may need to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs without assistance and greater than 50 lbs with assistance.

Employees must operate assigned equipment and vehicles and verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision:
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing:
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
