Cliftondale United Methodist Church is seeking a gifted and energetic Director of Music & Arts to lead and coordinate our church’s music and arts ministry. This part-time position works closely with the Senior Pastor, Worship Team, staff, choirs, praise team, and musicians to create meaningful worship experiences that inspire the congregation in praising and serving God.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in music or equivalent experience, strong skills in choir and praise team leadership, proficiency in piano and/or organ, and the ability to work well with people of all ages. Responsibilities include planning worship music, directing choirs, supporting musicians, coordinating concerts and special programs, and helping grow the music and arts ministry of the church.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music or sufficient work experience
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the total music and arts programs of the church for all ages
  • Establishes objective annually for worship and music programs. Reports periodically on progress toward obtaining objectives.
  • Supervises the Praise Leader along with band (e.g. percussionist, bassist)
  • Directs all choirs as needed
  • Develops musical skill of choirs and bands through rehearsals, coaching, workshops, etc.
  • Plan, organize, and promote concerts
  • Purchases music and related supplies with budget allocations
  • Participates as a member of the Worship Design Team and is responsible to this team for the worship & music programs of the Church
  • Coordinates and cooperates with the pastoral staff as well as the office staff
  • Performs other related tasks as requested
Music Preparation:
  • Selects music for worship service appropriate to the worship themes and seasons
  • Assists the Senior Pastor in the selection of music for the worship services.
  • Arrange or compose music for the particular needs and capabilities of the choir/praise team
  • Adapt choir accompaniments for the piano, organ or recorded music as needed
Special Requirements:
  • Must meet the United Methodist Church Safer Sanctuary requirements.
Physical Demands:
  • The physical demands as described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sometimes lift, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift 30 pounds when required.
