Overview
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
- The incumbent serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Primary Care at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Healthcare System (ATLVAMC) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).
- Incumbent may travel between campuses to perform duties and supervision, but the actual duty station will be at the CBOC.
- The incumbent is directly supervised by the Regional Director (RD) of Primary Care.
- Must have current board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Provide primary care services for a patient panel; the CMO physician will perform exams according to performance measure guidelines and dictate/type notes according to policy/procedure.
- Report directly to the Regional Director (RD) and Service Line Deputy Chief. Other duties include screening outpatients to determine need for further care, evaluating patients under the physician s care, ordering diagnostic studies, carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities, initiating and expediting requests for consultations, and scheduling special tests and studies.
- On rotation to do extended hours once per month or less.
- Adhere to operational policies and procedures for the primary care team, as established by the primary care service line manager and Regional Director (RD). Facilitate liaisons with other health care programs to coordinate service. Comply with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders and encounters for all patients.
- Plan and assume full administrative responsibility for the development and direction of functional primary care programs and physically dispersed staff. Formulate and implement general policies, procedures, program standards, goals, and objectives for the primary care department that align with the mission of the VISN and VA JMC Atlanta.
- Exercise independent judgment in the practice and provision of primary services (clinical care, consultation, and education). May consult with peers, the Regional Director, the Deputy Chief and Chief of Primary Care, and the Chief of Staff as needed. Acts as approving official for the staff physician to ensure adherence to professional standards of practice.
- Work Schedule:
Full Time, Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:30pm.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
- CME:
Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (full-time with board certification). - Malpractice:
