The Red Clay School Psychologist plays a key role in collaborating with the school community to determine student's educational needs and provide recommendations for interventions and supports. The Red Clay Consolidated School District follows the NASP Practice Model as our school psychologists have a variety of roles and responsibilities including: support of the school's Multi-tiered System of Supports, conducting psycho educational evaluations and functional behavioral assessments, coordinating behavioral supports, providing counseling supports and consulting with staff and families.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Conducts psycho educational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education including cognitive and achievement testing as well as adaptive and social/emotional measures
- Develops psycho educational reports and Evaluation Summary Reports
- Provides individual and small group counseling supports using research-based techniques
- Completes Functional Behavioral Assessments and develops Behavioral Support Plans
- Consults with school staff regarding academic and behavioral interventions and supports
- Advises teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide a motivating educational environment
- Actively participates in eligibility and IEP meetings and delivers reports in a family-friendly manner
- Refers individuals to community agencies for student and/or family support
- Supports the school's Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) including consultation with the Problem Solving team members in reviewing student response to interventions
- Serves as a member of the School Crisis Intervention Team
- Attends monthly School Psychologist meetings
- Performs other related duties as required
- Knowledge of roles and functions of a School Psychologist in an educational setting
- Knowledge of IEP's and the assessment process
- Skill in using and interpreting a broad range of assessments and sharing outcomes with teachers and parents.
- Proficient skills with Functional Behavior Analysis, Behavior Support Plan development, Manifestation Review Determinations and Collaborative Problem solving
- Knowledge of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulations
- An Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree, the equivalent of an Ed.S. degree, or a doctoral degree through a program approved by the
National Association of School Psychololgists (NASP) OR Doctoral degree in school psychology through a program approved by the
American Psychological Association (APA)
