TITLE:
Special Ed Paraprofessional
** ESS employee - - This job is for the 26-27 school year and paraprofessional will be an employee of ESS but work at ECES as a special education paraprofessional. The school administration and teachers will supervise. Applicant must apply here and at for consideration. Applicant must possess a paraprofessional certificate through GA PSC to be hired full time or sign up to take the test and substitute until passed.
JOB DESCRIPTION
PARAPROFESSIONAL (SPECIAL EDUCATION - Self-Contained)
REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher and Principal
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISES: N/A
POSITION STATUS: Non-Contracted / Salaried
EVALUATION: Position evaluated by Principal
WORK YEAR: 180 days / 32.5 hours per week
EVALUATION INSTRUMENT: Local
SALARY SCHEDULE: Paraprofessional + Local
RETIREMENT: ESS Employee- N/A
RETIREMENT: ESS Employee- N/A
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and benefits shall be paid according to system's approved salary schedule.
- Length of work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
- All full-time employees (at least 24 hours per week on a continuing basis and employment must be expected to last at least nine months) are eligible for health insurance.
- All teachers employed in professionally certificated capacity, provided he or she works half
-time or more (but not less than 18 hours a week) and is not considered a temporary employee, emergency employee, or retired employee are eligible for health insurance.
- Any non-Teacher Retirement System (TRS) eligible employee will have a FICA deduction.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
:
Skill in working with handicapped or exceptional children. Ability to relate to and work with
students and adults in a positive manner. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication
skills. Possess basic English and mathematics skills. Ability to follow written and verbal
instructions. Basic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned areas of
responsibility. Ability to perform clerical tasks. Planning and organizational skills. Knowledge
of operation of office and audio-visual equipment. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
Ability to perform specialized health procedures after required training. Ability to deal with the
unexpected in a calm and professional manner. Ability to handle sensitive information
confidentially.
JOB GOAL:
To assist the teacher of exceptional students, students with handicaps, or students with medically fragile conditions in performing assigned tasks in support of a quality educational program.
