Commercial Truck Driving Instructor/Examiner
Instructor/Examiner is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction/examination for the Commercial Truck Driving program. Instruction includes performing CDL tests and providing instruction in theory and practical applications of the discipline in accordance with state standards. The instructor conducts CDL tests and may teach face to face, hybrid or on campus, as needed, in accordance with college faculty loads. They instruct courses in a classroom/lab/clinic/field environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry as needed.
They utilize current technology in the classroom/lab/clinic, evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives, and grade all tests in a timely manner. They meet with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. They maintain program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the CTD discipline, prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports, and maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the discipline.
They attend professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Safety/Technology includes ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the Commercial Truck Driving program in Carrollton, supporting faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order, suggesting new/updated technology to remain current with trends and developments within the field, ensuring students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools, and ensuring classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.
Curriculum/Student and Program Learning Outcomes involve developing program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives, preparing all documentation necessary and/or plans for testing or instruction, working collaboratively with faculty within discipline to establish, measure, and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success, and submitting reports and data with respect to governing bodies.
Supports Program Director/Division Deans/Associate Deans by requesting and maintaining supplies and equipment, preparing budget requests, assisting with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts, serving on committees and project assignments as necessary, and performing other duties as assigned.
Competencies for Instructor include knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education, knowledge of academic course standards, knowledge of the college's academic programs, skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff, skill in the preparation and delivery of classroom/lab/clinic content, skill to make timely decisions, skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs, ability to break larger tasks into manageable smaller tasks, decision-making and problem-solving skills, skill in accurate grade-keeping, skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public, and oral and written communication skills.
Competencies for Third Party Tester/Examiner include efficient record keeping, scheduling, and organization, knowledge and complete understanding of 1-1.13 Third Party Tester Program.
Work Environment:
This position spends majority of time on the range which is outdoors and subject to seasonal weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time instructional position. Work load is Monday-Friday day/evening hours. Weekends based on need.
Travel:
Travel to other campuses is a possibility for teaching assignments, meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Required
Education and Experience:
Certificate in Commercial Truck Driving from an accredited institution and/or three (3) years out of the past seven (7) years of over-the-road (OTR) experience. Current Georgia Class A CTDL License. Clean MVR for past seven (7) years. Current DOT Medical Card. Successful candidate must pass an FMCSA drug test and will be subject to all FMCSA drug testing rules and regulations.
Preferred
Education and Experience:
Accredited Industry Training. Directly Related Teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Knowledge and experience in the use of the Internet, Email, Windows, Microsoft Office. 10+ years over the road experience.
