Job DescriptionJob Title: ELA Teacher (9-12 Combination)
Reports to: High School
- Provides Instruction:
Teaches at an appropriate instructional level and develops content based on standards, focusing on student learning and transfer of knowledge with initial focus, content emphasis, linking, and lesson summaries. - Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement, monitoring student progress, responding to adequate and inadequate performance, and supporting students.
- Manages the learning environment:
Uses time efficiently, handles non‑instructional tasks efficiently, uses instructional time appropriately, maintains an effective physical setting for instruction, and monitors student behavior, intervening when necessary. - Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies when working with students, records, parents, and colleagues.
- Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents and is available for conferences according to system policies.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required under reasonable terms.
- Facilitates home‑school communication through conferences, telephoning, and written communications.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
- Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
- Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Conducts assigned classes at scheduled times.
- Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Maintains a professional appearance appropriate to job responsibilities.
- Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teachers.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
- Completes assignments on time and in compliance with directions.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities, some of which may occur beyond the school day.
- Accepts responsibility for extra/co‑curricular activities assigned.
- Complies with contract conditions.
- Demonstrates accurate and up‑to‑date knowledge of content.
- Implements designated Georgia Standards of Excellence.
- Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy and prepares instructional aides and supplemental teaching materials.
- Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
- Maintains fair and accurate grading policies and procedures and attendance records.
- Acts professionally and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety, and good order.
- Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assumes responsibilities prescribed by the local school system and school.
- Collaborates with peers to use and analyze data to plan individually and cooperatively for student success and achievement.
- Evaluates student progress regularly utilizing a variety of methods.
- Utilizes technology in the classroom, including interactive boards, student response systems, document cameras, and record‑keeping systems.
- Is familiar with the school safety manual and instructions to protect students and others during natural disasters, environmental threats, and lockdowns.
- Participates in professional learning opportunities and applies concepts learned in the classroom to increase student learning.
- Effectively supervises teacher assistant or paraprofessional performance, if applicable.
- Channels all official business through the principal to the superintendent and other school officials.
- Complies with school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics.
