CTAE High School Agriculture Teacher

The CTAE Agriculture Education Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous instructional programs rooted in the Georgia CTAE Performance Standards. Utilizing the state-mandated Three-Component Model, the educator will seamlessly integrate Classroom/Laboratory Instruction, leadership, and personal development through the FFA (Future Farmers of America) student organization, and experiential learning via Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE). The goal is to prepare students for high-demand careers in agribusiness, agriscience, and natural resources or for post-secondary education.

Educational Level: Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education or a related field from an accredited institution.

Certification/License

Required:

Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Professional Educator's Certificate in Agricultural Education (T-4 or higher). Content Assessment:
Passing score on the GACE (Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators) Agriculture Education Content Assessment (Test Tests 040 and 041, or combined Test 540).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Deep understanding of Georgia's agricultural landscape and the CTAE "SuitCASE" standards. Ability to operate agricultural tools and technology; strong organizational skills for managing FFA chapter finances and travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Classroom & Laboratory Instruction Curriculum Delivery:
    Teach state-approved Agriculture Career Pathway courses (e.g., Therapeutic Services/Animal Science, Plant Science/Horticulture, Agribusiness, Forestry/Natural Resources, or Agricultural Mechanics ) according to Georgia Performance Standards.
  • Contextual Learning:
    Utilize specialized school labs—including greenhouses, livestock facilities, and agricultural mechanics shops—to provide safe, hands-on, and real-world instruction.
  • Differentiated Instruction:
    Analyze student learning data to plan, implement, and adapt lessons that serve diverse learners, including students with disabilities and gifted students.
  • FFA Leadership Development CTSO Leadership:
    Serve as the official Advisor for the local FFA Chapter, an integral Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) mandated by Georgia CTAE guidelines.
  • Competitive Events:
    Train, coach, and supervise students participating in local, regional, state, and national Career Development Events (CDEs) and Leadership Development Events (LDEs), including Skills USA.
  • Program Planning:
    Oversee the development and execution of the annual FFA Program of Activities, chapter budget, and monthly chapter meetings.
  • Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Work-Based Learning:
    Guide and monitor students in planning, executing, and documenting their SAE projects (e.g., entrepreneurship, placement, research, or foundational ag projects).
  • On-Site Supervision:
    Conduct instructional site visits to students' farms, homes, or workplaces to provide specialized feedback and evaluation.
  • Record Keeping:
    Assist students in utilizing the Agricultural Experience Tracker (AET) to maintain accurate financial and skills proficiency records.
  • General Teaching & Professional Duties Classroom Management:
    Establish and maintain a safe, disciplined, and positive learning environment conducive to middle school student development.
  • Student Supervision:
    Supervise students during the school day, including transitions, lunch duties, and school-wide activities as assigned by administration.
  • IEP/504 Implementation:
    Collaborate with Special Education and ESOL departments to provide necessary accommodations and modifications for diverse learners.
  • Professional Development:
    Attend required faculty meetings, CTAE conferences (such as GACTE), and technical training to stay current with industry trends.
  • Communication:
    Maintain regular contact with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and FFA opportunities.
