Special Education Paraprofessional

Support classroom instruction by assisting teachers with academic, emotional, and physical needs of students with disabilities, while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. Essential duties and responsibilities include following all county, state, and federal policies and procedures, monitoring and supervising students, assisting with preparation of materials for instruction, performing necessary clerical tasks, assisting with special activities, participating in lesson planning sessions, communicating with parents and school officials, assisting with student transitions, maintaining confidentiality, monitoring the classroom and students during teacher's participation in IEP meetings, providing exceptional customer service, and performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students, ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel), ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others, ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with all students, ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work, ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required, effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environments. Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Para "Rank I" High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), required. Para "Rank" II 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit above the remedial level from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution with grade of "C" or higher. Must maintain a Georgia Paraprofessional License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.

Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably lity to be present at the physical worksite. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds. Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
