Media Specialist - FHES
Position Summary:
The Media Specialist, as part of the Instructional Technology and Media Services department, works as a collaborator, change agent, and leader to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The Media Specialist empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. Additionally, they ensure equitable access to information and collaborate with teachers to design and implement instruction.
Reports To: Principal and Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Master’s degree from a GaPSC accepted educator program.
- S5 Media Specialist certification or higher required.
- T5 or higher in a teaching field, in addition to Media Specialist certification.
- Manage library resources to comply with copyright laws and ensure staff and students are informed about copyright guidelines.
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and maintain a professional appearance.
- Select materials for the library/media center and ensure availability for students and staff.
- Supervise library/media paraprofessional and provide training to develop information search skills for students, teachers, and staff.
- Promote and organize reading programs to encourage literacy and engagement with the media center.
- Supervise students while they are in the library/media center and maintain a positive, organized, and attractive learning environment.
- Manage the library collection, ensuring proper acquisition, organization, and accessibility of materials.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate literature, resources, and information literacy skills into the curriculum.
- Provide leadership in information technologies.
- Evaluate and revise policies, procedures, and services of the media center to continuously improve operations.
- Seek opportunities for professional growth and participate in professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.
