Position: Language Lab Student Assistant - Federal Work Study
Location: Oconee

Language Lab Assistant

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Language Labs department on the Oconee campus. The Language Lab Assistant, under the supervision of the Language Lab Coordinator, is tasked with facilitating workshops and completing assessments and feedback on student lab activities for all 1001/1002 students in Spanish. Language Lab Assistants are also available for tutoring in Spanish.

They assist students with the use of technology in the lab, with projects assigned by the professor, and with tutoring and speaking practice as requested. The Language Lab also hires some non-language-specific FWS students to support administrative tasks, outreach to the UNG community through social media, and to assist students with the technology required for lab assignments. Language Lab Assistants also complete administrative and clerical tasks to ensure the lab runs smoothly, as directed by the Language Lab Coordinator.

Assessments of student lab activity or workshop submissions. Assisting students with language and technology questions relative to lab assignments. Provide extra help and tutoring, maintain a clean and welcoming environment, special projects/tasks as requested by faculty or the Language Lab Coordinator.

Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker. Students who wish to be language lab assistants must have completed the 2002 level in the language they plan to work in or have at least that level of proficiency as determined in the in-person interview. Applicants must have completed the 2002 level in the language they intend to tutor or grade, or meet one of the following alternative qualifications:
Native or heritage speaker of the language High level of proficiency in the language Applicants who qualify through one of the alternative pathways above, or who are unsure whether they meet the language requirement, should demonstrate their proficiency during an in-person interview. If unsure about the language requirement, contact the Language Lab coordinator. Applicants for non-language-specific positions should be prepared to discuss their prior experience learning another language or their interest in gaining such experience.
