Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate certifications and training as outlined by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission;

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Interprets the intent of federal and state legislation and regulations to principals, teachers, parents, and the community, and the continuum of services provided for exceptional students
  • Manages and directs the daily operations of the Special Education department
  • Supervises and evaluates employees within the Special Education Department
  • Supervises the coordination of Special Education services district wide
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of IEPs
  • Supports behavioral intervention strategies district-wide
  • Manages the special education budgeting process
  • Supports the grant process for Special Education
  • Supports the allotment process for special education services
  • Oversees the submission of grant applications, reports, plans, and other required special education documentation
  • Supports the maintenance of student records for special education
  • Assists personnel in developing, revising, and implementing a system of professional learning activities
  • Monitors program initiatives in all schools on a monthly basis
  • Assists local school personnel in selecting and using instructional materials based on individual learning needs to access the general curriculum
  • Maintains a professional calendar
  • Maintains due process procedures for special education district wide
  • Collects and records appropriate data for school improvement goals
  • Promotes placement of students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment
  • Assists with the identification of students moving through the least restrictive environment and specialized placements, district-wide
  • Assists with the identification process (Child Find), district-wide
  • Assists the Transportation Director in providing transportation for students with disabilities
  • Develops, implements, and edits the state performance plan as needed
  • Serves as a contributing member of the system leadership team
  • Works with Personnel and Federal Program Depts. to ensure recruitment, retention or remediation of PQ teachers
  • Coordinates, analyzes, and supports data collection for special education programs district wide
  • Coordinates and supports transition processes, including graduation, transfer intake files, program, and level changes
  • Coordinates Child Find processes district-wide
  • Coordinates student assessment processes for students with disabilities
  • Assists with preschool outcomes processes; data collection, report completion, and submission
  • Prepares required reporting for local, state, and federal entities
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel, contractors, staff, parents, and the community for implementing and maintaining services and programs
  • Assists with the preparation of data and provides synthesis of information for reporting Special Education components
  • Coordinates the procurement process for securing contractors and services related to Special Education programs
  • Collaborates with legal services as required
  • Attends and/or provides professional development to staff
  • Participates in a wide variety of meetings
  • Fields inquiries, complaints, and concerns from various sources
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer or Superintendent
Required Skills:
  • L-5 or higher in special education field
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience
  • Minimum three years of teaching experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to make presentations using, but not limited to, technology resources
