GPC Solar / BESS / DERs - I&C Technician – McGrau Ford
Location: Ball Ground, GA
Position OverviewThe primary purpose of this position is to provide O&M support for GPC R2
Gen – McGrau Ford, Battery Energy Storage site located in Ball Ground, GA. The work location is the McGrau Ford site, with potential to support sister sites if needed.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the battery energy storage site. Duties include monitoring and operation of the assets through SCADA, as well as maintenance activities such as inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of AC and DC systems. Equipment examples include inverters, battery modules, battery systems, SCADA systems, plant controllers, transformers, switch gear, and metering systems.
The candidate will work routinely with 600‑1500 v DC systems and must be familiar with medium‑voltage AC systems up to 34.5 kV. Responsibilities also include site compliance, contractor administration, environmental, health, and safety. All technicians in this role are required to facilitate and execute LOTO using Generation SafeTK. Work will be planned, documented, and tracked using IBM Maximo. The position may expand into future solar training and solar work based on business needs.
Typical work schedules may include 5/8s or 4/10s, but schedules may be adjusted to suit business needs. Availability for night, weekend, holiday work, and storm duty is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Working knowledge of industrial or power plant facility operations and maintenance
- Demonstrate knowledge in electrical and mechanical safety
- Show understanding of industrial safety practices such as LOTO, switching, maintenance processes, and basic industrial compliance obligations
- Proficient in reading and understanding electrical schematics and prints
- Proficient with DC systems and equipment
- Fundamental understanding of medium and high voltage AC systems and equipment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
- Self‑directed, responsible, and accountable
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities
- Physical fitness for demanding tasks
- Assigned to McGrau Ford; travel to other sites may be required
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and scheduling of site maintenance activities and projects
- Execute site operations and maintenance activities and projects
- Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment
- Facilitate and execute site compliance (Environmental, Health, and Safety)
- Facilitate and execute contractor compliance
- Administer, facilitate, and execute LOTO procedures
- Use Maximo for PMs, CMs, CDs, inventory, PRs, POs, and record keeping
- Participate in team meetings (Morning, Planning, Safety, etc.)
- Complete all assigned training
- Effectively communicate with Team Leader and Team Members
