Description

This position will work at both the Washington County (Sandersville) and AL Sandersville (Warthen) sites. The Washington County Power Plant site features four GE 7FA natural gas-fired combustion turbines. The AL Sandersville site features eight GE 7EA natural gas-fired combustion turbines. Together, these sites deliver reliable energy to the region.

The O&M Technician operates and maintains a simple-cycle power plant while applying advanced mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation skills. Depending on experience, candidates may start in a single-skill role or enter a multi-skilled position immediately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor plant systems to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on:
    • Electrical systems: switch gear, motors, breakers, plant wiring.
    • Instrumentation & controls: calibration, tuning, component replacement.
    • Mechanical systems: combustion turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, rotating equipment.
  • Maintain control of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) processes and ensure proper safety protocols.
  • Qualify as a control room operator and adhere to all plant operating procedures.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance records accurately.
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance programs in a team-oriented environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training preferred.
  • 3–5 years of power plant experience.
  • Experience with GE 7EA or 7FA combustion turbines preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mark V, Mark VI, and Mark VIe control systems a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

All plant employees are expected to work safely at all times. Working at the power plant will involve:

  • Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
  • Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
  • Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
  • Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
  • Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating switches, push buttons, and other controls.
  • Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
  • Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • This position will be part of an on-call rotation.
  • Weekend and overtime schedules are required.
  • Living within 45 minutes of the plant is required.
Summary

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
