We partner with design-build contractors, general contractors, and leading installers to deliver high-performance building envelope solutions for mission-critical facilities across North America.

Position Summary

We are seeking a versatile Detailer/Designer/Estimator to join our team and provide comprehensive technical support to our customers. This role combines detailing expertise, design capabilities, and estimation skills to help our clients successfully integrate Perma Therm's insulated metal panel systems into structural steel building projects. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle—from initial concept and budgeting through final construction documentation.

Primary

Responsibilities Detailing (~40%)
  • Prepare detailed shop drawings and fabrication drawings for structural steel buildings incorporating insulated metal panel systems
  • Coordinate panel attachment details with structural steel framing members
  • Develop connection details for IMP-to-steel interfaces, ensuring structural integrity and thermal performance
  • Create 3D models using Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar detailing software
  • Generate accurate material takeoffs and cutting lists from detailed models
  • Coordinate with fabricators, erectors, and general contractors on detailing requirements
  • Ensure all details comply with building codes, engineering specifications, and industry standards
Design Support (~40%)
  • Assist customers with preliminary design layouts for structural steel buildings with IMP systems
  • Provide technical guidance on framing requirements to support insulated metal panels
  • Recommend optimal girt and purlin spacing for various panel profiles and loading conditions
  • Design attachment systems that accommodate thermal movement and maintain envelope integrity
  • Collaborate with engineers on load calculations and structural requirements
  • Develop value engineering alternatives to optimize material usage and constructability
  • Create design documentation including specifications, schedules, and details
  • Support customers during the RFP/bid phase with technical design assistance
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel building projects featuring IMP systems
  • Quantify materials including steel tonnage, panels, fasteners, and accessories
  • Analyze project specifications and drawings to identify scope and pricing requirements
  • Prepare comprehensive bid packages with material breakdowns and alternate pricing
  • Assist sales team with budget pricing during early project phases
  • Review and validate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy
Required Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structural steel detailing, estimation, or design
  • Experience with insulated metal panels, building envelopes, or pre-engineered metal buildings preferred
  • Background in cold storage, cleanroom, or industrial construction highly desirable
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in structural steel detailing software (Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD 3D, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Working knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE
    7) and steel design standards (AISC)
  • Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and mechanical drawings
  • Experience with estimation software (Trimble, Plan Swift, Bluebeam, or similar)
  • Familiarity with thermal bridging, condensation control, and envelope performance
