KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Develop creative approaches to keeping operational costs to a minimum, improving efficiency, and implementing new strategies.
- Manage mechanical systems: chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems such as roof‑top units, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems.
- Manage electrical systems: electrical/critical power distribution from the Utility/Generator main switch gear through the UPS systems out to the customer load.
- Manage fire life safety systems: wet sprinkler systems, pre‑action sprinkler systems, and associated detection devices.
- Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters, read blueprints and schematics, and inspect parts for surface defects.
- Install electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies using hand tools, aligning, fitting, or assembling component parts.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems across mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and building monitoring and control.
- Analyze systems to ensure best practices for internal and external customers, providing feedback on existing standards and processes.
- Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
- Track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance program.
- Ensure the data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, recommend new technologies, and improve overall efficiency and cost reduction.
- Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting events and determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned and ensure regular, predictable attendance.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems in a data center environment, including electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLCs, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pre‑action sprinkler systems, and compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and fire life safety codes.
- Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
- Familiarity with data trending, tracking, and analysis using a PC‑based integrated critical monitoring system.
- Ability to process hands and eye requests such as tape rotation, rack and stack of equipment, inventory hardware, power cycle devices, and patch cable install/removal.
- Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (chilled water systems, large centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, VFDs and pumps, HVAC equipment, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification systems, water heaters, water/air filters, BMS and PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generators, fuel/oil systems, 480/277 and 208/120 electrical generation and distribution, static UPS systems, double interlock pre‑action systems).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work.
- Fast learner able to address issues during normal working hours or after hours.
- Strong process‑driven team orientation with logical problem‑solving skills.
- Multi‑tasking across multiple projects.
- Ability to operate hand and machine tools (hammer, drill, saw, etc.) and electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera).
- Forklift operation capability.
