Job Overview
Generally responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs of small and large mechanical engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Support site management with contractor oversight and contract administration for the assigned project, including field coordination of activities and administrative tasks related to contract documentation in Purchaser’s Unifier for the assigned discipline.
- Ensure project documentation – Project Specifications, Drawings, General Conditions and Special Conditions – is complete and up to date.
- Adhere to and enforce onsite contractor safety procedures and programs, including the behavior‑based safety (BBS) program using Purchaser’s software.
- Participate in the Purchaser’s Stop Work Authority (SWA) program.
- Participate in the Southern Safety Trilateral (SST) front‑line supervisor training.
- Adhere to and enforce onsite contractor quality procedures and programs, including participation in a quality surveillance program using Purchaser’s software.
- Document daily activities and interactions with contractors in the Daily Log form in Unifier; frequency is set by each project site.
- Attend and participate in required project meetings.
- Become familiar with and interpret all technical specifications and drawings related to the scope of work being overseen.
- Coordinate and facilitate receipt of material and/or equipment deliveries as designated by the Purchaser’s representative.
- Complete any deliverables defined by the individual role or directed by on‑site representatives.
- Ensure contractors follow all lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) and confirmed space procedures, acting as Purchaser’s representative to ensure all LOTOs are performed, set up, requested, documented, walked down and maintained as required.
- Assist with development of scopes of work for competitive inquiries.
- Assist with year‑end contractor evaluations for the work overseen.
- Assist with contract closeout activities for the work overseen.
- Assist with invoice validation for the work overseen.
- Coordinate daily activities to support the project with Purchaser’s on‑site representatives.
- Respond promptly to site or project conditions on behalf of Purchaser’s on‑site representatives, with minimal direction or supervision.
- Immediately report any incidents, unsafe conditions, unusual activities, or other unforeseen circumstances to the Purchaser’s on‑site representative.
Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Professional RegistrationProfessional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
ExperienceThis position requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of design standards and codes.
- Knowledge, application and specification of piping materials.
- Developing piping material and procurement specifications.
- Good design practices for sizing all piping systems.
- Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems.
- Flexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex piping systems.
- Specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
- Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
- Manual valve sizing, use and application.
- Application of piping supports and restraints.
- Specification of safety valves, devices to maintain mechanical integrity of piping systems.
- Specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.
- Estimating piping‑related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
- Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development for coordination of design efforts.
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Understanding of discipline‑specific methods, practices and techniques for engineering, design and construction of process and manufacturing projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Virtual team collaboration and cross‑divisional relationships.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
