Meteorologist

Oceanography Officers, also known as METOC, are geophysical experts supporting Navy operations through meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, and related fields. Their mission is to analyze the physical environment to ensure navigation safety, operational freedom, and force lethality.

Key responsibilities include leading environmental data collection, processing, and prediction to support fleet and joint missions, and leading teams from small detachments to large commands. They serve at sea on various vessels or ashore at production centers, research labs, and headquarters.

Training involves courses like IWBC and BOAT, with postgraduate education at the Naval Postgraduate School for senior officers. The career path offers sea, shore, and educational tours worldwide, with promotion opportunities up to Flag Officer.
