Oglethorpe Power is hiring Combustion Turbine Technicians (CT Tech I–IV) to support our Smarr Simple Cycle Plant
-a fast‑response peaking facility that plays a critical role in grid reliability across Georgia.

This role is ideal for technicians with experience in industrial power generation, gas turbines, heavy rotating equipment, or military/shipboard systems who want steady work, strong safety culture, and hands‑on responsibility in a modern plant environment.

Job Duties:

  • Start up, shut down, and operate simple‑cycle combustion turbines and balance‑of‑plant systems
  • Perform operator rounds, monitor plant conditions, and respond to alarms and abnormal equipment behavior
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Work with high‑voltage electrical systems and industrial control systems
  • Diagnose failure modes, take corrective action, and escalate issues when needed
  • Own assigned systems and work orders using Maximo (planning, parts, documentation, follow‑up)
  • Support outages and maintenance planning (including job plans, parts, and staging)
  • Serve as Clearance Authority, ensuring equipment is safely isolated before work begins
  • Coordinate with contractors during outages, repairs, and capital projects
  • Document work, operational events, and system conditions clearly for shift handoffs and reporting

  • Want long‑term stability, skill development, and pride in plant performance

Experience We Value

You may be a good fit if you have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Combustion turbines, gas turbines, or large industrial engines
  • Power plants, refineries, chemical plants, LNG facilities, or large manufacturing sites
  • Naval propulsion, shipboard turbines, or industrial rotating equipment
  • Industrial electrical, instrumentation, or mechanical maintenance

Required Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in engineering, engineering, or related physical science, or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in:
  • Entry‑level candidates with strong mechanical/technical aptitude will be considered for CT Tech I

Equivalent

Experience:

  • For the Combustion Technician I, we will consider entry-level candidates with demonstrated analytical and technical problem-solving aptitude.

Specialized

Skills:

  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, drawings, and procedures
  • Experience with or exposure to plant control systems such as:
    • Siemens T3000
    • GE Mark VI/VIII
    • Allen-Bradley PLC's
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems
  • Comfortable using plant software and basic computer tools (email, work orders, documentation)
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, call‑outs, and overtime as required for plant operations

Licenses, Registrations, and/or

Certifications:

Valid driver's license which meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power's qualification program.

Travel: 15%

Unusual hours or overtime:
Will require scheduled and call-out overtime as plant operating and maintenance needs dictate. Production schedules require 24-hour coverage, rotating shift schedules.
