The Mechanical Engineer SR 1 is a senior-level engineering role focused on mechanical design and engineering leadership for small to medium retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects. This position requires deep expertise in power generation or heavy industrial facility design, with a focus on piping systems, equipment layout, and hydraulic calculations. The ideal candidate is capable of leading design activities, making sound decisions independently, and providing technical oversight to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities- Perform mechanical engineering design for retrofit, environmental, and new construction projects.
- Lead detailed design tasks including:
- Pipe sizing, routing, and material selection
- Pipe support design and valve selection
- P&t and equipment layout
- Equipment specifications and datasheets (valves, pumps, etc.)
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Provide technical direction to designers and junior engineers.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and ensure design compliance with codes and standards.
- Oversee checkout and startup support as needed.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of design documents and drawings.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
- PE License is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design for power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
- Proven ability to lead detailed mechanical design activities from concept through construction.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and design codes.
- Proficiency with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Significant experience with:
- P&t and review
- Piping system layout, pipe sizing, and routing
- Material and equipment selection (tanks, pumps, valves, balance of plant equipment)
- Pipe support design and hydraulic calculations
- Experience preparing inquiry packages and datasheets.
- Familiarity with Pipe-Flo or similar hydraulic analysis software preferred.
- Working knowledge of process equipment (valves, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.).
- Experience with relief valve and control valve sizing.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and team leadership skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
