Harris County, Georgia, population 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta, 30 minutes north of Columbus, and home to Callaway Resort and Gardens and FDR State Park, is accepting applications for an Assistant Solid Waste Director for the County.

This full‑time position operates under the direction of the County Manager and is responsible for supervising the day‑to‑day operations of the Solid Waste Department. The Assistant Solid Waste Director reports directly to the Director of Solid Waste and assists in overseeing departmental activities, personnel, and services to ensure efficient and effective operations.

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of the scale house, transfer station, landfills, and convenience centers.
• Supervise and direct the work of assigned inmate workers and ensure compliance with safety procedures and operational standards.
• Assist with special projects as needed and enforce solid waste management policies, procedures, and ordinances, recommending revisions as appropriate.
• Respond to routine inquiries and requests for information from the public, county officials, and external agencies.

• Associate degree in a related field required.
• More than three years of progressively responsible experience in solid waste operations, public works, or a closely related field.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
• Must possess, or have the ability to readily obtain, a valid Georgia driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle or equipment operated – Class B CDL.

The starting wage is $30.83 per hour, plus generous benefits including a five‑year vesting schedule for retirement.
