Role Description

The Code Enforcement Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Springfield, GA, responsible for ensuring compliance with county codes, ordinances, and land use regulations. Day-to-day duties include investigating complaints, conducting field inspections of properties and structures, documenting violations, and preparing written reports and notices. The role involves educating property owners and residents on applicable codes, working collaboratively to achieve voluntary compliance, and, when necessary, coordinating with law enforcement or legal staff on enforcement actions.

The officer will interact frequently with the public, answer questions about regulations and procedures, and maintain accurate records in accordance with departmental policies. This position supports community safety, health, and appearance by consistently enforcing standards and providing professional customer service.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience or training in code enforcement, including applying and interpreting local codes and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of land use and zoning regulations, and the ability to read and understand site plans or property records.
  • Background in inspection work, including conducting field inspections, documenting findings, and preparing clear, concise reports.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement principles or regulatory compliance, with the ability to work cooperatively with public safety and legal agencies.
  • Strong customer service skills, including tactful communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to work respectfully with diverse community members.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework or certification in code enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and recordkeeping systems; ability to learn county-specific software as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a county vehicle for field inspections.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and exercise sound judgment while following established policies and procedures.
