RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with registry certification in Sonography or graduate of a formal diagnostics medical sonography program and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or become registry eligible and successfully complete registry within 1 year of employment.
- Current, valid AHA Healthcare Provider training (BCLS).
- Demonstrated ability to perform ultrasound procedures in accordance with the policies and protocols in effect (assessed within 90 days of hire).
- Familiarity with the technology related to practice in the assigned functional sections.
Summary/Objective:
The Sonographer position performs a variety of high quality, diagnostic ultrasound procedures along with performing M-mode 2D and Doppler Echocardiography.
- Performs high quality sonograms. Must be competent with various types of equipment and perform a wide variety of procedures.
- Performs echocardiography to include M-mode, 2D and Doppler Echocardiography.
- Follows exam-specific protocols established by profession and radiologists.
- Calculates M-mode, 2D, and Doppler measurements.
- Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures.
- Provides patient care essential to sonography procedures.
- Assists radiologist during procedures as required.
- Complete documentation associated with procedures.
- Applies age related factors appropriately to patients from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Maintains professional relationships with members of medical staff, hospital staff, and patients.
- Maintains patient film and records as required by policies and procedures.
- Reviews image quality and completeness of each procedure to maintain high image quality standards.
- Ensures operation of ultrasound equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains competency in sonography technology.
- Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures.
