Overview

Mercer University College of Pharmacy seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Hasan Lab to lead independent and collaborative research in cardiovascular drug discovery, focusing on ion channels and G‑protein‑coupled receptors (GPCRs) for hypertension, stroke, and cardiometabolic diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Lead independent and collaborative research projects investigating ion channels and GPCRs as therapeutic targets.
  • Design and carry out studies using pressure myography, Ca2+ imaging, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, genetic approaches, cell culture, molecular biology, luminescence‑based assays, ELISA, Western blotting, enzyme activity assays, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, biophysical ligand–receptor analyses, blood pressure measurement, in silico modeling, and molecular dynamics simulations.
  • Contribute to grant development, assist the principal investigator with manuscript preparation, and support laboratory operations to uphold rigor, reproducibility, and compliance.
  • Exercise scientific independence and contribute strategically to the growth of the research program.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related biomedical discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience demonstrating independent research and contribution to an established program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Substantial grant and manuscript preparation experience, including publications.
  • Experience leading or contributing to competitive grant applications.
  • Experience with animal models of hypertension, stroke, diabetes, and pulmonary hypertension.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular and metabolic sciences and intracellular signal transduction pathways.
  • Proficiency in experimental techniques relevant to animal disease models (hypertension, stroke, diabetes, pulmonary hypertension, preeclampsia).
  • Ability to design, execute, and manage independent research projects from conception to publication.
  • Demonstrated leadership in grant preparation and collaborative research.
  • Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team.
