The Clinical & Health Informaticist – Principal

This role challenges the status quo of the healthcare experience through the Science of Informatics. This is an exciting field where experts innovate, design, simplify and translate technology to equitably support the Intermountain Health mission and vision.

Responsibilities
  • Perform workflow and system analysis and functional design for software development and configuration activities associated with the EHR and other HIT-related initiatives.
  • Participate in implementation, training, and adoption and process improvement of the EHR and other HIT-related systems.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholder groups and Information System staff in acquisition, configuration, development, testing, and implementation of solutions with all levels of complexity.
  • Lead complex projects or programs, monitor team tasks and projects to ensure completion by assigned timelines.
  • Utilize knowledge of workflows in an integrated healthcare system to positively impact the use of technology by caregivers.
  • Work across organizational structure to accomplish objectives and build internal and external relationships.
  • Effectively employ change management, organizational skills, and continuous improvement in projects and day‑to‑day work.
  • Independently prioritize and organize work with attention to detail and limited supervision.
  • Use word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, e‑mail, virtual meeting applications, and scheduling applications.
  • Employ advanced informatics skills (People, Process, Technology) and knowledge to positively impact patient safety and quality.
  • Apply functional design methodologies, tools, techniques, and HIT fundamentals within assigned work.
  • Conduct clinical workflow analysis to anticipate how system changes and new technology affect clinical workflow processes, and assist with workflow design and training.
  • Analyze workflow data, literature, new technology, best practice, and standards to meaningfully impact workflow design and training.
  • Understand functional architecture, security, and compliance requirements relevant to HIT to positively influence system design.
  • Leverage interoperability (Standards, Terminology, Workflow) to assist in system and workflow design.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory standards (Policy/Procedure/Guideline/CMS) to ensure Intermountain Health meets relevant Health Information Technology regulations.
  • Conduct facility rounds across the system to observe workflows, meet with key stakeholders, assist with implementations, and perform other targeted functions.
Qualifications
  • Experience mentoring, creating standards, and processes for core informatics skills development (gap analysis, problem definition, clinical workflow analysis, etc.).
  • Experience developing and communicating strategic plans and influencing the informatics roadmap with leadership.
  • Experience successfully leading complex projects or initiatives.
  • Experience cultivating productive relationships with peer and policy organizations, and external vendors.
  • Experience implementing Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience building relationships with executive clinical and business leaders.
  • Experience managing complex informatics portfolios across multiple healthcare domains.
  • Experience sharing informatics learnings through publications and presentations internally and externally.
  • Experience with project governance, data stewardship, and cost‑benefit analysis to align with organizational goals.
  • Registered Nurse and other licensed clinical incumbents must hold and maintain current state licensure.
Physical Requirements

Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, and monitors; assess customer needs; communicate spoken information, alarms, and issues quickly and accurately. Requires manual dexterity of hands and fingers for manipulating complex equipment; frequent computer, phone, and cable setup and use. Expected to lift, transport, pull, and push equipment, often heavy items. May work on hands and knees and bend to set up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.

Driving may be required for some roles.
