Optim Medical Center - Screven is seeking a PRN Phlebotomist for our Sylvania, GA location.

Responsibilities
  • Provide care to Medical and Surgical patients who have recently undergone surgery to repair muscles, bones, and connective tissue.
  • Consistently draw blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Perform bleeding times and record patient results.
  • Enter patient orders in LIS including collect and receiving specimens.
  • Identify the patient by comparing patient information in LIS to the patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed.
  • Display courteous, professional manner toward patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Label and record all test tubes, log procedures, file paperwork.
  • Know which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed.
  • Follow standard precautions at all times.
  • Dispose all sharps in a red sharps container.
  • Clean and supply venipuncture trays, maintain work areas, and order supplies when needed.
  • Require minimal supervision in performance of job duties.
  • Complete duties efficiently, prioritizing STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.
  • Seek guidance and direction as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the value of team concept consistently.
  • Assist laboratory technician and perform clerical work when needed.
  • Follow policies and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory and the hospital.
Professional Requirements
  • Adhere to dress code; appearance neat and clean.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated time.
  • Wear identification while on duty; use computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Complete in‑services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attend annual review and department in‑services as scheduled.
  • Read and return all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.
