Optim Medical Center - Screven is seeking a PRN Phlebotomist for our Sylvania, GA location.
Responsibilities- Provide care to Medical and Surgical patients who have recently undergone surgery to repair muscles, bones, and connective tissue.
- Consistently draw blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
- Perform bleeding times and record patient results.
- Enter patient orders in LIS including collect and receiving specimens.
- Identify the patient by comparing patient information in LIS to the patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed.
- Display courteous, professional manner toward patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Label and record all test tubes, log procedures, file paperwork.
- Know which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed.
- Follow standard precautions at all times.
- Dispose all sharps in a red sharps container.
- Clean and supply venipuncture trays, maintain work areas, and order supplies when needed.
- Require minimal supervision in performance of job duties.
- Complete duties efficiently, prioritizing STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.
- Seek guidance and direction as necessary.
- Demonstrate the value of team concept consistently.
- Assist laboratory technician and perform clerical work when needed.
- Follow policies and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory and the hospital.
- Adhere to dress code; appearance neat and clean.
- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintain regulatory requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated time.
- Wear identification while on duty; use computerized punch time system correctly.
- Complete in‑services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attend annual review and department in‑services as scheduled.
- Read and return all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement.
- Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.
