Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant is a key role in our practice, creating a strong first impression for patients and ensuring they feel cared for. The assistant prepares patients for the doctor's evaluation and assists clinical providers with patient examinations by obtaining and documenting vital signs, past medical and social history, and updating electronic medical records (EMR).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist professional nursing staff by providing direct patient care.
  • Prepare charts, take temperature, pulse, perform screenings, blood pressure, and respiration, and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist physicians by maintaining practice workflow, organizing exam rooms, maintaining and ordering supplies, screening patient requests, and performing tasks such as blood draws and POC testing as directed by the provider.
  • Follow instructions closely and report observations and symptoms indicative of patient reactions and complaints.
  • Ensure timely appointments and decreased wait‑times by managing workflow.
  • Accurately schedule initial evaluations, follow‑up appointments, and cancellations.
  • Initiate all appointment reminder calls in a professional and courteous manner, projecting appropriate language and tone of voice.
  • Demonstrate effective oral, listening, and written communication skills to facilitate positive customer relationships and staff interaction.
  • Prioritize and complete duties accurately and timely.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate responsible judgment by updating knowledge, referring problems through appropriate channels, and observing policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and enter patient history, chief complaint, and update medication lists into the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain compliance with legal requirements, HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies.
  • Assist with other office duties, including answering phones, faxing, and filing.
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt, sorting, and storing.
  • Restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Answer phones, file, greet patients, and perform other administrative tasks.
  • Maintain infection control and safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
  • Perform additional duties/tasks requested by providers, coordinators, and management in accordance with office procedures and policies.
  • Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
  • Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in a medical office; at least 2 years of similar experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with EKG, phlebotomy, and patient care.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant; CPR certification.
  • Experience with EHR/EMR systems;
    Athena preferred.
  • Knowledge of pre‑authorizations and referrals.

Physical & Mental Demands

The role requires walking, bending, sitting, talking, lifting, and hearing. The employee may stand, use hands and arms to operate general office equipment, and occasionally lift or move between 10 and 25 pounds. Close vision and ability to adjust focus are required. Occasional travel to healthcare practices may be necessary.
