Position OverviewThe Medical Records Clerk at Wilcox State Prison supports the healthcare team by maintaining accurate, organized, and confidential patient medical records. This role is responsible for ensuring documentation is properly filed, updated, and accessible to authorized medical staff, helping support efficient patient care and smooth daily operations within a structured correctional healthcare environment.

- Maintain, organize, and update patient medical records accurately and timely
- File, scan, upload, and retrieve medical documents as needed
- Ensure records are complete, confidential, and compliant with facility and healthcare documentation standards
- Assist healthcare staff with locating and preparing medical records for appointments, reviews, audits, and care coordination
- Track missing, incomplete, or pending documentation and follow up as needed
- Support communication between medical, nursing, and administrative teams regarding record needs
- Follow HIPAA, confidentiality, safety, and facility protocols always
- Assist with general clerical duties, including data entry, copying, faxing, and document organization
- Support smooth workflow between shifts and departments by keeping medical records current and accessible
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous medical records, healthcare clerical, or administrative experience preferred
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
- Ability to manage paperwork, electronic records, and multiple documentation tasks
- Basic computer and data entry skills
- Strong communication and follow-up skills
- Ability to work effectively in a structured, secure environment
