The Medical Physicist calibrates radiation therapy units, supervises and participates in radiation surveys, leaks and swipe testing of radioactive sources for Radiation Oncology. Makes Complex calculations for the application of external beam treatments, determination of dosages, etc.
Medical Physicist Responsibilities:- Meets all regulatory standards (NRC, ACR, State, JCAHO, etc) for therapeutic radiation therapy services/equipment. Maintains timely and complete documentation of work.
- Serves a Radiation Safety Officer for PCCC and acts as a resource for RSO.
- Plans and coordinates radiation physics activities for PCCC.
- Meets scheduled project deadlines
- Accurately performs and verifies calculations for application of external beam therapy
- Accurately performs and verifies calculations for brachytherapy procedures.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation in accordance with department policies and ACR/professional standards.
- Accurately performs and documents all required dosimetry for external beam therapy.
- Oversees Quality Assurance Program for external beam and brachytherapy.
- Oversees maintenance and repair of radiation equipment. Maintains accurate documentation of services.
- Responsible for development, implementation and review of physics policies and procedures in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Develops and manages physics quality management program.
- Actively participates in CQI processes resulting in improvements in customer service &/or, efficiency/or increased efficiency/productivity.
- Actively participates in identification of processes to increase efficiency/cost-containment/or customer satisfaction.
- Meets medical physicist ACR standards for Education
- Participates in instruction and training of staff and medical personnel.
Qualifications:
- MS degree in Medical Physics preferred; however, other appropriate physical science graduate degree accepted.
- Experience in calibration of equipment, medical dosimetry calculation; operate QA/Radiation Safety Program preferred.
- Board eligible for A or ABMP;
Successful completion of Part I of the certification process. - Possess excellent Interpersonal relationship and communication
- Current healthcare provider CPR required.
