Position: Technical Solutions Specialist (E6146)

Job Summary

The overall purpose of this position is to implement technical solutions for the expanding scope of Student and Academic Education Programs and activities. This technologically savvy knowledge worker independently seeks out technology and code solutions to business challenges for try engineering.org and other Student and Academic programs, including but not limited to EPICS in IEEE and IEEE‑HKN. The incumbent collaborates with other OUs to develop solutions for collecting metrics, improving performance of websites, and developing solutions for initiatives from multiple programs.

The role serves as the main point of contact for the product operating delivery team, and coordinates requests and activities with other Educational Activities personnel. The role will be the primary contact with vendors who support Student and Academic websites and technical solutions. The role reports to the Director, Student and Academic Educational Programs, and serves as the liaison to internal partners and external vendors in development and support of the solution and/or platform.

This position works with moderate supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support try engineering.org and related applications (50%).
  • Maintain the performance of try engineering.org with lead volunteers, directors, managers and IT, and recommend improvements and additions aligned with changing needs.
  • Develop solutions that document successful completion of pre‑university programs and/or attendance at events in collaboration with IT, Credentialing, MGA and other OUs.
  • Perform website updates using appropriate content development tools, including Word Press.
  • Update the website using HTML and/or CSS styling when UI solutions are needed on existing AEM components.
  • Update page content, forms, images, and/or assets as needed.
  • Review and understand existing content needs and develop solutions.
  • Translate and/or document requirements and code solutions between business stakeholders and developers when needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues or errors reported by content contributors.
  • Maintain forms in AEM and Word Press using the Wufoo form handler.
  • Work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Work with business units to provide a technical scope and help define requirements.
  • Research and coordinate digital best practices, including user experience principles, accessibility standards, browser and device capability, CMS, governance guidelines, and testing across multiple devices to inform IEEE Digital Style Guide updates and new resources for IEEE site managers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues or errors for external and internal customers and appropriately elevate to technical or management staff.
  • Support Student and Academic Programs (25%).
  • Work closely with program managers to recommend and support implementation of improvements to websites.
  • Work closely with program managers to recommend and support implementation of data management solutions.
  • Serve as the liaison to IT (25%).
  • Serve as the liaison to the Product Operating Delivery Model, representing all Student and Academic Education Programs.
  • Ensure program needs are communicated and collaborate with program managers to facilitate technical solutions for business needs.
  • Work closely with internal developers to ensure concepts are implemented according to requirements and are user‑tested when necessary.
Travel Information
  • Less than 10% domestic and international travel.
Education
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, web development, interaction design, software engineering, or another related field is required.
Work Experience
  • 2‑4 years working in a team environment with the ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders.
  • 2‑4 years experience with Word Press, JavaScript, HTML, XHTML, XML, Dreamweaver, and CSS or other programming languages.
  • 2‑4 years willingness to pursue further web development or accessibility‑related certification (preferred).
