Role
Purpose:
The Business Information Architect – Customer is accountable for defining and aligning customer business meaning, data, systems, and processes across enterprise platforms and data domains. This role ensures customer data is consistently understood, structured, and applied across the company to support operational processes, data quality, governance, analytics, and business objectives.
Working as part of the Enterprise Data Management organization, this role bridges business process and technology by partnering with Data Governance, Data Stewards, Data Architects, IT Architects, and business stakeholders. The role focuses on customer definitions, critical data elements, business rules, hierarchies, and end-to-end data flows across key platforms, including SAP MDG, ERP, contract lifecycle management, and related commercial processes. This role supports all functions that use customer data, with primary emphasis on Finance, Supply Chain, and downstream processes such as credit management and order-to-cash.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the business information architecture for customer data across systems, processes, and data domains.
- Develop and govern customer business terms, definitions, critical data elements, hierarchies, relationships, and business rules to ensure shared understanding across business and technology teams.
- Analyze and document how customer data is created, mastered, transformed, integrated, and consumed across enterprise systems and business processes.
- Partner with Data Governance, Data Stewards, Data Architects, and IT teams to align customer information architecture with governance standards, business requirements, and technical implementations.
- Support consistency of customer data across SAP MDG, ERP, contract lifecycle management, and related commercial and operational systems.
- Maintain traceability between business definitions, business rules, stewardship practices, and downstream data and system implementations.
- Support the standardization of customer hierarchy and relationship structures, including use of D&B and other reference data sources where appropriate.
- Contribute to the design and publishing of trusted customer data products for operational and analytical use.
- Define and promote standards for customer data quality, semantic consistency, accessibility, usability, security, and compliance.
- Support the definition of information requirements and controls for customer onboarding, maintenance, and customer attributes embedded in downstream business processes and transactional flows.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to stakeholders on customer information architecture, data usage, and best practices.
- Monitor and assess customer data issues, architecture gaps, and opportunities to improve consistency, usability, and business value.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, business, finance, supply chain, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
