Managing Account Executive ​/ Underwriter - Northfield Contract Binding - Eastern Region

Role Overview

Under general direction, responsible for the profitability, growth and retention of an assigned book of business within a territory that aligns with overall business line objectives. Manages a portfolio of moderate to high complexity accounts, oversees a small group of Account Executives, and collaborates with business units to support market penetration and cross‑sell opportunities.

$ – $ nationwide (actual salary determined by scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience).

• Underwrite primarily moderate to high complexity accounts, determining pricing, retention, endorsements, limits, and indemnity to maximize profitability.
• Use judgment within own underwriting authority and provide input on more complex accounts.
• Contribute to regional business plan development and implement strategies to meet objectives.
• Effectively manage assigned agents/brokers, develop and maintain relationships, and write and retain accounts in line with business unit appetite.
• Lead consultative marketing and sales activities, identify new business opportunities and cross‑sell Travelers products.
• Develop agency sales plans and partner with the Managing Director to create group sales strategies.
• Participate in or lead underwriting/agency meetings and attend industry events as needed.
• Negotiate without guidance and execute strategy to drive results.
• Drive collaborative business approaches, foster enterprise‑wide solutions, and recruit high‑caliber talent.
• Manage staff performance, provide coaching, training, planning, and performance management.
• Provide honest, constructive feedback, reward significant achievements, and progressively train less experienced Account Executives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 4+ years of Account Executive or underwriting experience.
• Typically 6‑8 years of relevant underwriting or accounting experience.
• Understanding of industry business operations, financial drivers, and local insurance marketplace.
• Knowledge of regulatory rules, policies, and procedures; experience with excess and surplus/non‑admitted underwriting.
• Analytical thinking and financial acumen to support profitability decisions.
• Proficiency in relationship management, networking, and alliance building.
• Effective people management skills and ability to lead staff performance.
• Valid driver’s license or alternative personal transportation.
• Preference for CPCU designation in certain lines of business.
• Must possess at least four years of experience in underwriting, claim, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product, or finance functions.
